about

Deborah Martin, LMT, CLT-LANA

Deb is a NYS licensed massage therapist, LANA-certified lymphedema therapist (Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy), certified manual lymphatic drainage therapist (Academy of Lymphatic Studies) and Reiki master/teacher. She is trained in complete decongestive therapy and has over 200 hours of training in Vodder MLD, post-operative MLD, compression and patient education.  Her work integrates myofascial release, Swedish Massage, manual lymphatic drainage, reflexology, cupping and Reiki.  Her focus in oncology massage is garnered through coursework at Full Circle Wellness, Maryland and Greet the Day, California.  Her depth of knowledge in the lymphatic system benefits all oncology patients as lymphedema is common with cancer treatment.

In addition to running a practice in the Syosset/Woodbury area, Deb offers mobile massage for oncology and hospice patients (will travel to patient homes for their convenience), works at the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai Hospital and owns Massage Associates LLC where she teaches NYS massage therapy board review courses.

She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Delaware and an Associates Degree in Occupational Studies from New York College of Health Professions.  She also serves as a Reiki volunteer at the Hospice Care Network and is a proud member of the Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM), New York State Medical Massage Therapists (NYSMMT) and the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).

Massage Therapy Policies

Woodbury Massage Therapy takes our responsibility to provide a safe environment for our clients and practitioner very seriously.

Health and Safety

We sanitize all contact surfaces, equipment used, and tools with hospital-grade germicide after each appointment.  Air purifiers are run while practitioners or clients are on the premises.

We request all persons clean their hands upon arrival.  Hand sanitizer is available in the waiting area and treatment room, and clients are welcome to use the bathroom sink to wash their hands.  If your immunity is compromised due to cancer treatments, our practitioner will be properly masked.

Minors

Clients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the entire treatment.  We ask the parent or legal guardian to refrain from making phone calls or engaging in noise-creating or distracting activities during the session.

Reserving/Booking

All new appointments are arranged after a brief phone consultation. A 50% deposit is required for new clients to reserve/book appointments.  The deposit will be used toward the treatment.  Deposits are non-refundable, if the patient does not show up or cancels less than 24 hours in advance. Venmo, Zelle, or Check is accepted.

Payment

Payment is expected at the end of each appointment and may be made by cash, Venmo or Zelle.

Appointment Length

All appointments begin at the scheduled time.  Please assure your fully allotted time by arriving at the office 15 minutes early. Appointments include verbal intake and discussion, treatment, and recommendations your practitioner feels would be of benefit.  We ask you to be mindful at the completion of your session to exit the premises promptly once dressed.

Late Arrivals

Late arrivals, up to 30 minutes, will receive only the remainder of scheduled session time and are charged the full appointment fee.  Please arrive on time so you may receive a full appointment.

Late arrivals, more than 30 minutes, will be considered a no-show, and billed the full appointment fee.

Late Cancellations

Canceling less than 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time is considered a late cancellation and will be billed a $100 late cancellation fee.  Clients must inform the office of the cancellation via text or voicemail.  Rescheduling will not waive the fee.

Illness and Infection

Cancel your appointment if you are feeling unwell, have symptoms of illness or infection.  Do not come to the office when you are experiencing communicable illness, such as colds, flu, respiratory infection, or COVID-19.  Clients arriving mid-infection or experiencing fever, respiratory, cold, and/or flu-like symptoms will have their appointment canceled on the spot and will be billed the full treatment fee.  Woodbury Massage Therapy will not provide massage therapy to anyone with an active infection. Clients with active infection will not be treated until the infection is medically resolved, (i.e. have completed a full course of prescribed antibiotics and no longer have symptoms of infection). Woodbury Massage Therapy will not risk the health of any patient.

Why are there cocoons on your service page?

This poem has been meaningful for many patients with whom I have worked. I am sharing it here, for all to enjoy.

‘Cocoon’ by Brother Richard Hendrick OFM

Do not expect cocooning

To be easy.
It is not a time of rest

But of rebirth.

They used to think
That the Caterpillar
Merely slept there,
Awaiting the wonder of wings.

This is not true.

To cocoon means
The breaking down of self,
Of letting go of all
that may be considered
Caterpillar.
Yielding to the chrysalis call.
Dropping all that is old identity,
All that is desire,
All that is hungry,
All that is eating, eating, eating,
Endlessly.
When the moment comes, called
To go to the cool dark underleaf, underlog place,

To spin the silk of silent self,
The Caterpillar dissolves,
Touches the point of nothingness
Of being;
Become now
Neither Caterpillar
Nor Butterfly
Become simply, potential,
Until new form is found,
Until the selfmade tomb is too tight
And Butterfly is birthed,
bursting blessing, beauty.
A journey through stillness
into freedom,
Into flight,
No one who knew the Caterpillar
Would know it in the Butterfly,
No one who knows the Butterfly

Would see in it
Even the memory
Of Caterpillar,
Yet within there is
A continuity of being
A new recipe out of old ingredients
A life remade, a seed flowered, a potency fulfilled,

There is pain in this

I am sure.
How could there not be?
There is always pain
In surrender,
In transformation,
In new life, new birth
Death before resurrection,
Letting go, before letting be
This is the divine order of things
This is why there hides
Even here, even now,
In all your old Caterpillar desiring,
In the hunger at the core of your being,

The promise of Butterfly
If you would but surrender
To the call
Of the cocoon.
If you would know,
even for a day,
The wonder of wings
The freedom of flight.
